Known from Sagami Bay, Japan. The holotype is from Sagami Bay in 200 fm (366 m), and the syntypes of M. hastifer are from off Honshu Island, Japan, 60 miles E of Manazuru Zaki, Kanagawa, Sagami Bay, 120–265 fm (219–485 m).
