From the Latin, vittatus, bound with a ribbon, in reference to the white and red bands in the chelipeds.
Carapace with some long setae dorsally. Mesial spine of first antennal segment not reaching end of basal segment of antennular peducle (excluding distal spines). Merus of third maxilliped with distal spine on extensor margin. Chelipeds with numerous long simple setae; fingers between 1.3 and 1.5 times the length of palm; palm with row of strong dorsolateral spines, continuing along entire length of fixed finger. Merus of walking legs with distinct strong squammae. Pereopod 4, merocarpal articulation nearly reaching or slightly overreaching front margin of carapace, overreaching level of first branchial spine of carapace. Lateral parts of fifth and sixth thoracic sternites without striae.
Males, 6.6–7.2 mm; females 4.4–7.4 mm (ovigerous femles from 6.8 mm).

Specimens from Japan were ollected from substratum of dead coral blocks and rubble.
