This new species is named after its type-locality, and Formosa is the old name of Taiwan.
Carapace with some long setae dorsally. Mesial spine of first antennal segment reaching or overreaching end of basal segment of antennular peducle (excluding distal spines). Merus of third maxilliped unarmed on extensor margin. Chelipeds with numerous long simple setae; fingers slightly longer (1.1 times longer) or subequal to length of palm; palm with row of small dorsolateral spines, continuing along proximal half of fixed finger. Merus of walking legs with distinct strong squammae. Pereopod 4, merocarpal articulation nearly reaching or slightly overreaching front margin of carapace, not reaching level of sinus between rostrum and supraocular spines. Second and third abdominal somites with 1 main continuous transverse stria only. Lateral parts of fifth and sixth thoracic sternites without striae.
Male, 15.4 mm; females 12.5–19.3 mm (ovigerous females from 15.0 mm).
Taiwan northeastern coast, 115 to about 300 m deep.
